The ATL Now Covers Atlanta Technical College's Grand Opening of the Microsoft Datacenter Academy
ATLANTA, GA — The ATL Now was on hand as Atlanta Technical College celebrated a historic milestone with the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Microsoft Datacenter Academy, a cutting-edge training facility designed to prepare students for careers in one of the nation's fastest-growing technology industries. The academy officially opened on May 20 and is one of Georgia's first dedicated datacenter training facilities.
The celebration brought together college leadership, Microsoft executives, business partners, educators, elected officials, and community leaders, all recognizing the importance of investing in the future workforce of Metro Atlanta.
Guests toured the state-of-the-art training lab, where students will receive hands-on experience with enterprise-level servers, networking equipment, cloud infrastructure technologies, and datacenter operations. The facility was designed to mirror real-world environments, giving students the practical experience needed to transition directly into high-demand technology careers.
"This academy represents more than a classroom—it represents opportunity," said Dr. Victoria Seals, President of Atlanta Technical College, during the ceremony. She emphasized that while technology is shaping the future, success ultimately depends on developing the people who will lead and innovate within the industry.
The Microsoft Datacenter Academy is part of Microsoft's global workforce development initiative, which partners with educational institutions to expand access to technical education and create direct pathways into careers in cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure. Students enrolled in the program will also benefit from scholarship opportunities, mentorship, industry-recognized curriculum, simulation labs, and potential work experience with industry partners.
Backed by more than $800,000 in funding through the Atlanta Technical College Foundation and supported by Microsoft and other industry partners, the academy reflects the growing demand for skilled technology professionals as Georgia continues to emerge as one of the country's fastest-growing data center markets.
As Atlanta continues attracting major investments in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure, the need for a highly trained workforce has never been greater. The Microsoft Datacenter Academy positions Atlanta Technical College at the forefront of workforce development, ensuring students are equipped with the skills employers need today and into the future.
The grand opening concluded with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, networking opportunities, and demonstrations showcasing the academy's innovative learning environment. It was a celebration not only of a new facility but of the countless opportunities it will create for students, employers, and the Metro Atlanta community.
The ATL Now congratulates Atlanta Technical College on this remarkable achievement and looks forward to following the success stories of the students who will help power the next generation of technology innovation in Georgia.
